MEWP Booms and MEWP Scissor Lift

Course Content

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to assess when it is appropriate to use a stepladder or ladder, how to correctly select and check a stepladder or ladder, how to use a stepladder or ladder safely and how to effectively comply with their duties under the Working at Height Regulations 2005.

Objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to: 

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the industry and their roles and responsibilities as an operator 
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook 
  • Locate and identify the major components and controls of the machine and explain their functions 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of loading/unloading procedure for machine transport 
  • Conduct all pre-operation checks 
  • Check all emergency lowering functions 
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area 
  • Safely mount and dismount the machine 
  • Configure the machine for travel then move off and stop safely 
  • Manoeuvre the machine safely, on level ground and inclines, in open and confined areas 
  • Manoeuvre the machine safely over uneven terrain (self-propelled units only) 
  • Travel with the platform raised (where applicable) 
  • Carry out accessing tasks up to the full operating height and reach 
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures.
